One of the quintessential summertime tunes.
In Smith's Cove, we've had a fortnight of marvellous weather – hot, sultry, gentle sea breezes during the evenings. Weather considered, we could almost imagine living in the USA southern states.
Of course, the vegetation and accents are
definitely Nova Scotian, but summer is all about imagination, and
letting our thoughts wander into the stratosphere and then settle
where they may.
Relaxing on the deck and gazing out to the Annapolis Basin.
For teachers, we begin our holidays with our shoulders up around our earlobes, and it takes a week to lose that tension. Because friends, the MacKinnons, have been stopping by to enjoy my front porch,

I've been pausing long enough to enjoy the view, and the warmth of the air, pausing long enough to let the muscles in my shoulders relax.
There are tasks to complete.
The art shed roof re-shingling, which should
have taken a couple of days, maximum, is now at day 3. There is rain
expected today, so the job may not be completed until later this
week.
We expect to have a couple of skylights
installed in the upstairs bedrooms this summer, on this bit of roof.

I started sorting rooms in preparation for some light construction work, but gave up briefly, because the art shed took my
attention and time. I'll get back on track this
week. Time is of the essence now, because we expect the contractor
next week.
And in between those tasks, I am
trying to get some pleasure out of our lovely summer weather.
I'm
enjoying some easy livin'.
I decided to work in the mornings and
rest and play in the afternoons.
Great idea, but it means that some
tasks are taking a couple of days instead of one. (or three, like the
art shed). But, that's life.
I
said that's life And as funny as it may seem
'Cause
this fine old world, it keeps spinnin' around.
(thanks
to Frank Sinatra)
My summer dreams...a bit of travelling, and plenty of easy livin'. It's difficult to stomp on those dreams. They might get rearranged, but hardly stomped on.
I've been exploring our immediate area during the afternoons, finding hidden vistas
and views in Digby County
A couple
of trips within the province are available options … down the
Annapolis Valley to Kentville, through South-west Nova towards
Yarmouth, perhaps the South Shore route to Halifax. If the weather
is pleasant enough (ie no rain forecast) there may be a trip to PEI
in the offing.
But,
this is summertime. The livin' is easy. And another well known
tune... que sera sera...says it all, for summertime and for life.
