SUNSET DRIVE

I bought some new hiking boots today.

They are lovely...no-name brand from Canadian Tire...good looking and as comfy as can be. I had to try them out, so I took the dogs for a walk.

We went via Bear River to Sunset Drive. Sunset Drive is a dirt road that runs from Lansdowne to Smith's Cove. It is fairly straight, until the top of the hill. Then it zig-zags down the hillside to the highway.

I love driving along this road, because there is always flora – trees,

 flowers

or ferns bordering the road.

Fairly often there are animals (other than our two dogs) just beyond the ditches;

I have seen deer, raccoon, porcupine and fox along the road. Our neighbour across the highway has seen bear; I'm almost glad I haven't seen them because I always have the dogs with me, and they'd surely try to be friendly with a bear.  This is perfect bear country, but also other animals...I always keep my eyes peeled for any signs of life in the bush.  Nothing today.....

The view from the top of the hill is magnificent. It is a bit obscured by leafy tall trees during the summer; in the spring and autumn it is much more open.

My Aunt Mary said that when we could see Saint John from the hills outside Digby it meant there would be a change in the weather, usually a storm. We've tested that old wives' tale many times, and it usually comes up trumps. Today we could not see Saint John, so tomorrow should be a fine day.
